    Winemaker's Notes:

    #4 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2009

Aromatics: Dominant notes of ripe raspberries and dark cherries. Slight traces of wet stone interplay with the fruit and encourage you to taste.

On the palate: Overlapping flavors of boysenberry, dark cherry, traces of nutmeg, savory baking spices and mouthwatering acidity mingle in perfect balance. The distinct fruit grabs your attention with its mid-palate saturation which is the precursor to a long, delectable finish. This is the perfect combination of intensity and elegance.

    Critical Acclaim:

Firm and focused, with a wonderful purity of flavor, offering a complex, focused mix of black cherry, raspberry, spice and anise. Full-bodied and concentrated. Long and persistent on the finish. Drink now through 2014. 3,069 cases made

Bright red. Potent aromas of cherry and dark berry skin, smoky herbs, potpourri and black cardamom. Surprisingly fresh on the palate, with brighter red fruit and candied floral character supported by velvety tannins. The mineral note repeats on the long, seductively juicy finish.

    International Wine Cellar

Ripe and rich, very nicely concentrated, focused on black cherry fruit with touches of dried violets, cinnamon-like spice and quiet hints of dark chocolate, this very delicious wine feels just a bit on the blocky, slightly tough side at present but has the depth and beauty to insure that it gets better and better over time. For near-term use, we would opt to partner it with sturdy or savory meats rather than more delicate choices.
