The complex nose shows bright red fruits, lavender, violets and spicy lift. The palate is full bodied and brooding with a structural backbone of tannin that runs the length of the palate. Plum, raspberry and dark cherry open before a second layer of earth, smoked meats and dried herb emerge with a subtle hint of cedar oak on the finish.
Light and crisp, with a gentle buzz of tannins around red berry and guava flavors, lingering on the focused, vibrant finish. Drink now through 2013. 1,000 cases imported.
D'Arenberg’s next tier of reds begins with the 2007 The Custodian Grenache. It is dark ruby-colored with a perfumed nose of spice box and cherry. Sweetly fruited and juicy, it closely resembles a high level Cotes du Rhone. On the palate, it is a bit leaner and racier in style than the past few vintages. With excellent grip and balance, it can be enjoyed over the next 2-3 years.
Bright medium red. High-pitched raspberry and cherry aromas are complicated by notes of cracked pepper and fruitcake. Lively, sweet and quite primary, with a youthfully tangy quality and tightly wound flavors of red berries and spices. Darker berry notes arrive on the nicely focused and persistent finish.
