This complex and intriguing wine offers layered aromas of red and black raspberries, fresh Oregon strawberries, brown spice and cedar. Its aromas are reflected on a palate that speaks of purity and elegance, and is exceptionally balanced with firm tannins and a persistent finish. This wine will pair beautifully with the Pinot noir classics - lamb, duck, grilled salmon, and aged cheeses.
The 2008 Pinot Noir Elizabeth's Reserve is a blend of all nine of the single vineyards utilized by Adelsheim. My personal favorite in the portfolio, it is certainly a testament to the art of blending. The wine spent 10 months in 30% new oak. Medium ruby in color, it sports an already complex bouquet of smoke, Asian spices, incense, underbrush, rose petal, cherry, and black raspberry. Medium-bodied on the palate, this elegant effort manages to cram loads of savory, spicy fruit into its frame. With outstanding volume and fruit intensity, it will evolve effortlessly for 3-4 years and deliver prime drinking from 2013 to 2023.
Light, focused and impressive for the clarity of its perfumed cherry, raspberry and floral flavors, lingering beautifully against refined tannins. Drink now through 2016.
This barrel selection from the best estate vineyards is given just 10 months aging in 30% new oak. The fruit is exceptional – a mix of red berries with tasteful threads of caramel sneaking into the finish. Let it breathe—it’s a baby—but very nicely proportioned and showing layers of detail throughout a lingering finish.
Still wound up in itself, this wine shows plenty of promise in its scents of licorice root and cedar. While the fruit is slow to emerge, when it does it's delicate and leanly expressed. After a day, a core of red cherry develops in the middle palate, while fruit tannin firmly defines the finish. This will need time to evolve.
Deep red. Black raspberry and cherry on the nose, with complicating notes of mocha, anise and dried rose. Ripe but energetic, offering sweet dark berry and bitter cherry flavors that gain sweetness with air. A hint of smokiness builds on the finish, which strongly echoes the cherry note. Give this some decanter time or just lose it in the cellar for a few more years.
Like the Quarter Mile, the nose displayed plenty of oak influence but unlike its stable mate, aeration did not completely abate the intensity of the wood yet there is enough mid-palate concentration that in time, it should successfully integrate. There is good depth and fine overall balance and this should prove to be an excellent wine in time though note that this is very much a baby at the moment.
