    Winemaker's Notes:

The Syrah vineyards are located in two sections of Rosario Valley, both are almost flat with a slight inclination to the north. The ground is of granite origin, deep and of coluvial. The grapes are from clones 174 and 300. The careful handling of foliage and the load along with controlled watering allow for yields less than 5 tons per hectare, thus achieving perfect and slow maturity of the grape in this cold climate of San Antonio. The fermentation took place in open tanks of 4 tons capacity. The grapes were cold macerated before fermenting with selected yeasts. The wine was later placed in carefully-selected casks of French oak, where the malolactic fermentation was carried out and then remained for 12 months before bottling.

A dark violet color, almost black, exhibiting the characteristic aromas of Syrah with notes of spices, including pepper, and fruits like black cherry and blackberry, all mixed in a surprising complexity. It is concentrated on the palate; the tannins are firm but rounded. It is a balanced wine, fresh and with a long persistent finish.

This wine a great accompaniment to game, lamb and mature cheeses.

    Critical Acclaim:

Check out the depth of flavor in this syrah grown in El Rosario, ten miles from the sea. The wine’s blackberry and black cherry flavors mesh with herbal details and black pepper notes. Give it several hours in a decanter, and you’ll find something wilder in the flavor, closer to raw meat, powering its firm fruit through the finish.

Evidence is showing that Matetic is rising to the top of Chile's Syrah mountain. This is a floral, heady, deep wine with bold black fruit aromas. Boldness is key throughout, and the palate delivers pure wild berry, blackberry and cassis flavors. Smooth yet powerful; a voluminous wine with class and character. Drink now through 2014.

Dense and well-layered, with plum skin, blackberry preserve and anise flavors, followed by briar, spice and graphite notes. The long, grippy finish has a juicy underpinning.

Opaque ruby. An exotically perfumed bouquet evokes dark berry preserves, violet, mocha and licorice, with a smoky overtone. Lush and expansive on entry, offering sweet blackcurrant and boysenberry flavors, then tighter in the mid-palate, which shows a bitter cherry quality. Finishes with supple tannins and lingering smokiness. This would compete with plenty of high-end California syrahs.

Very nice Syrah. Spicy on the palate and a nice fruity taste. Really a good deal for the price. One bottle was corked when it arrived. Fortunately, the second was great and there is another on the way to replace it once it cools. Great work, WineShopper! Bottom line is I would recommend this wine.
