The regal Barolo Cannubi has a nose with a myriad of sweet scents of spice and ripe fruit, that is accompanied by the classical notes of Cannubi (mint and eucalyptus). With a lively taste that is powerful and chewy, but pleasingly elegant. It has impressive structure and decisive tannins with a long and fantastic finish. A highly award wine recognized worldwide.
Color: garnet red with orange reflections;
Aroma: Intense, ethereal with notes of floral and fruit.
Taste: dry, full, robust, austere but velvety with violet notes, tar and vanilla.
Pairings: red meat: wild game and birds, braised meat, marinated rabbit; seasoned cheese; truffle plates. Optimal wine for meditation.
Vintner Chiara Boschis took over this historic estate after the death of its founder Luigi Pira. She continues in a precise Barolo tradition that pays attention to quality of fruit and vineyard designations. The Cannubi cru, for example, is celebrated for the elegant nature of its wines. Here you will encounter fine aromas of orange blossom, wild berries, white mineral and delicate floral notes.
The 2005 Barolo Cannubi comes across as decidedly fresher and more powerful than the Via Nuova, particularly in its red fruit, which shows considerable depth and richness. The wine is sweet, long and pure. Notes of menthol, herbs, and spices make an appearance on the finish but those qualities find a counterpoint in the wine’s density and richness, such that the slight herbal qualities that are present are not at all unpleasant in the wine. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.
Good bright, deep red. Very sexy aromas of raspberry, coffee and red rose. Intensely flavored and perfumed in the mouth, with a distinctly pinot-like texture to the red fruit, rose petal and spice flavors. The new barrique element sweetens but does not overpower the wine. Finishes long and aromatic, with a sexy note of spicy oak. Light years ahead of the 2004, which was overpowered by its wood component. Really captures the best characteristics of the 2005 vintage.
Blueberry and fresh raspberry aromas follow through to a full body, with chewy tannins and a fruity, crisp finish. This is pure and beautiful. Best after 2012.
