Original Wine Note:
Overall, the 2000 Napa Valley growing season was very cool and moderate, save for a few advantageous warm spells. Bud-break and fruit-set was normal. Moderately warm, sunny days from June to September kept the clusters' development on-track through a pleasant summer. By the time he assembled the final blend, he knew each lot's best characteristics and chose to build a solid core of fruit and ripe tannins from Steinhauer Ranch and Rancho del Oso on Howell Mountain, with small amounts of St. Helena and Bancroft Ranch for added lushness. Finally, he added almost ten percent Cabernet Franc from Steinhauer Ranch.
2007 Tasting Note:
Black cherry, black currant
Cedar, sassafras, cocoa, mint, sweet oak spice.
Very balanced wine.
Less herbal characteristics than 99.
Lighter, pretty elegant character.
Sweet black currant, blueberry and raspberry fruit intermixed with crushed rock and floral aromas jump from the glass of this sleeper of the vintage. The wine’s saturated purple color, heady, medium to full-bodied mouthfeel and supple tannins result in a delicious, nearly fully mature Cabernet Sauvignon that can be enjoyed over the next 10-15 years.
