Our 2008 Pierre Léon offers the promise of a long cellar life and a constantly evolving depth of character. It presents aromas of dried cherries, dried rose petals, and sandalwood giving way to juicy black fruits, violets, and eau de vie as it opens. The entry is rich, round, and structured moving seamlessly into a mid-palate full of black raspberries and cassis coupled with dark, musky, and woody tones to produce a long and memorable finish. This wine has the ability to pair well with many foods such as olive-crusted leg of lamb, grilled salmon, or chanterelle risotto. It will improve for the next 3-5 years and age well for 10-12.
Firm in texture, with juicy red berry and red cherry flavors cutting through the veil of tannins, picking up cinnamon and clove nuances as the finish lingers. Best from 2012 through 2018.
Bright ruby-red. High-pitched, floral-accented aromas of cherry and red berry compote, with complicating spice and earth nuances. Spicy and precise on entry, offering sweet red fruit flavors that gain weight and smokiness in the mid-palate. Tannins arrive late and add structure to the spicy, clinging finish. Come back to this in a few years.
Scents of graham cracker and soy lead to ripe black cherry flavors, while oak defines the finish with mocha notes melding into the sweet, dark fruit. This has the depth for spice-rubbed pork loin.
