The Running with Bulls Tempranillo is sourced from multiple growers in the western ranges of the Barossa, through to the valley floor and into the Penrice region of the Barossa. This provides a great range of aroma and flavour profiles to make this an interesting and varietal Barossa Tempranillo. Showing dark cherry, tar and potpourri with hints of mocha choc oak. The plush palate has succulent tannins that add structure and length to the wine.
This is a worthy successor to the gold medal winning '08 version. Clear crimson colour promises and delivers a floral bouquet of spice and herb, then a palate with bright and long red cherry / berry fruit with almost juicy tannins, a seeming contradiction, but that's what I felt.
A vibrant, red-fruited wine, this has an intriguing, warm spice character that lasts. With air, the fruit turns darker, toward pomegranate, its richness and freshness balancing the spice.
A Yalumba project, Running with Bulls sources Tempranillo from several subregions of the Barossa under the stewardship of winemaker Louisa Rose. The oak here is subtle and well integrated, adding hints of vanilla and spice to the black cherry and plum flavors. It’s full-bodied and richly textured, yet soft and welcoming.
