This wine follows very closely in the vein of the exceptional 2007 vintage Russian River Valley, and is another deeply colored Pinot, with a beautiful nose of ripe plums, blackberries and a touch of sweet oak. Firm tannins and moderate acidity surround and accentuate a very expansive mouthfeel. The abundance of ripe fruit on the palate is a testament to the great 2008 vintage. The '08 Freeman Russian River will take a few more years to reach ideal maturity—probably in 2013—and should prove very cellarworthy until at least 2018.
Medium-deep ruby color; deep, rich aromas of black cherry and spice with some subtle mint notes; rich, ripe, lush dark cherry flavors with spice and mint notes; lush, slilky texture; some toasty oak; good structure and balance; long finish. Deep, lush Pinot with lots of interesting flavors. As silky as it is now, it will definitely reward some cellar patience.
Another in a string of fine Pinots from this producer. Shows real cool coastal influence in the brisk acidity, delicate structure and deep flavors of cherries and cola, which seem to have a long hangtime complexity. Very good, and should develop over the next 5–6 years.
Ruby-red. Intensely floral aromas of raspberry, cola and rose, lifted by a pungent white pepper quality. Spicy red berry flavors gain flesh and sweetness with air, picking up a smoky mineral quality and a note of candied flowers. Finishes juicy and very long, with berry skin and peppery spice notes. Most of this fruit comes from Green Valley, according to Ken Freeman.
