This blending of Grenache and Mourvedre gives a lush, soft, elegant wine with rich blackberry / blackcurrant, violet and cracked pepper notes. The palate is round, supple and dominated by this fruity and spicy complexity, with a mineral taste and a long finish.
A brilliant effort, the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is velvety textured and full-bodied, offering hints of sandy, loamy soils, licorice, kirsch and crushed rocks (minerality soars from the glass). Stunningly rich, layered and provocative, it is a classic wine of Provence. This big, mouthfilling, chewy 2010 should drink well for 15-20+ years.
Ripe and rich, but sleek, racy and pure, with linzer torte, blackberry coulis and plum sauce notes all coursing along, lined with lavender, anise and graphite. This has the density of the vintage, but stays remarkably supple and stylish overall. Best from 2015 through 2030.
Deep ruby. Deeply pitched aromas of dark berries, cherry and licorice. Broad and fleshy on the palate, offering dense blackberry and cassis flavors and a touch of candied violet. Brighter on the persistent finish, which features notes of raspberry and allspice.
