Blackened crimson. Leather, gunpowder, crushed rock, coffee-edged blue fruits and roasted meats dominate this Cornas styled expression. The seductively integrated and modestly amplified Syrah characters identify the Moritz vineyard's modern take on a traditional classic. The majestic savory edged tannin profile is finely grained and long winded. The luxuriously weighted flavor intensity is powerful, multi-layered, rounded and generous.
The 2006 Syrah Moritz Vineyard is more structured, with 5-7 years of aging potential.
Rich, aromatic and powerfully focused. This is a big wine, but it's not at all heavy, showing amazing purity of fruit, with blackberry, plum and huckleberry fruit galore, all pointing toward the long, expressive finish. Tannins are present but well-integrated. Should go far. Best from 2010 through 2020.
Dark purple. Intense, peppery blackcurrant and blueberry aromas are complemented by dried flowers, Indian spices and sexy oak notes. Pliant dark berry flavor show liqueur-like depth and intensity while maintaining excellent focus; a slow burn of smoky minerals gains power with air. The late-arriving tannins contribute to the impression of structure: as seductive as this today, give it a few more years of aging.
