Youthful and surprisingly lively, the 1996 is a pleasing drink. Imbued with a myriad of potpourri spice, cranberry, dusty jasmine and forest floor. This is an expressive wine—pretty and full of charm. Currently quite delightful!
Deep ruby-red. Floral aromas of blueberry and shoe polish; the 12% cabernet franc component is quite noticeable today. Velvety and sweet in the mouth, but lively acidity gives the fruit excellent delineation. Lovely depth of texture. Tannins are remarkably supple and ripe. Potentially the strongest Napa Valley bottling to date from this winery.
Still youthful and potent, this is very rich and concentrated, with layers of currant, black cherry and blackberry fruit that's well-defined. This is still quite tannic, yet it's deftly balanced, finishing with a long, persistent finish.
The 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon is a powerful, concentrated, dense ruby/purple-colored wine. Full-bodied and muscular, it exhibits copious quantities of black currant fruit intermixed with blackberries, minerals, cedar, and Chinese black tea-like notes. The tannin is sweet, in a vintage where this component can be slightly coarse.
