    Winemaker's Notes:

A revelation and a true wonder! The ruby red color is magnificent and takes on a deeper hue with age. The aromas are intense and evoke raspberry and wild cherry, becoming more complex with age: undergrowth, truffle, candied fruit. A sublime structure, with refined tannins. It is a perfect example of this ideal of elegance according to Drouhin. A remarkable balance and a lingering persistence of flavors on the palate. It is a wine that always leaves the greatest impression.

    Critical Acclaim:

Drouhin owns two parcels, a total of 2.25 acres, in Clos de Vougeot on a slight incline facing east. In 2010, this was vinified with a large portion of whole bunches, the vintage yielding a wine of power and grace, formed in a seemingly perfect sphere. The vibrand color parallels the brightness of the flavor, its red berry freshness preserved in floral scents and a gentle touch of earthiness that reverberates underneath. A classic.

A big, rich, yet brooding '09 red, with a hint of animal to the plum, cherry, currant and spice flavors that butt up against the massive, though not overly obtrusive, tannins. Compact now. Best from 2015 through 2032.

This is also quite floral with a ripe and somber nose of earthy liqueur-like aromas that give way to exceptionally rich, intense and full-bodied flavors that possess fine complexity and excellent length. I quite like this though it's not quite in the league of the very best wines in the range. This should age well over the next 20 years and live for much longer.

The 2009 Clos de Vougeot comes across as relatively simple next to the estate’s other grand crus. Subtle floral notes meld into red fruit in this feminine, subtle wine. This shows good energy and fine balance if not quite the complexity or sheer pedigree of some of the wines tasted alongside it. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029.
