    Winemaker's Notes:

Sausal Family Zinfandel is produced from estate grown grape vines averaging 50 years old. Following fermentation, the wine was aged twenty-one months in a combination of American and French oak barrels, adding complexity. This wine can be aged four to six years from its release date. We recommend you pair this wine with a creamy cheese pasta alfredo or stroganoff. This wine will also lend itself beautifully to a heavy cheeses like a blue, or a mushroom covered fillet.

    Critical Acclaim:

Zesty and appealingly briary, with easygoing notes of dried cherry, licorice and black pepper. Tannins sneak in on the finish. Drink now through 2017.

First let say this beauty was way-way-way under scored, by far. Nose; Dark Cheries, Vanilla and Oak. Palate; Blackberries/Cheries intertwined and competed in and out of each other to be noticed, followed with a nice subtle oak, ending smooth and velvety, yet still some tanning left to give it a few more good years to even better itself, although this gem is ready now. Which is somewhat unfortunate for me because I only purchased a couple of bottles and cannot get any longer. Excellent wine to bad they sold their winery to Silver Oak, or should I should Hopefully not to bad..Time will tell. I recommend to open at least an hour, made a nice difference in its completionto it's smoothness A solid 93 points..

I am a zin lover, and this wine holds its own especially for the price point. I have been to Sausal's tasting room a few years back, and remember enjoying all of their zins, and buy their label whenever I can. This particular wine was a bit lighter, almost leaning towards a pinot. I bought a case and use it as an any-dinner drinker.

A little light for my taste in Zinfandels. It is a wine that is okay, but not my favorite.
