    Region: Piedmont, Italy

    Varietal: Barbera

    Style: Smooth & Supple

    Item no. 123602

    Winemaker's Notes:

The color is a lively and brilliant dark ruby-red. The perfume is fresh and intense with clean scents of wild berries, currants and sour black cherry. A light hint of vanilla and toasted oak. The flavor is warm and robust, full-bodied, pleasant and balanced. This Barbera's sensory attributes make it an outstanding accompaniment for imposing first courses and main-course, meats boiled or roasted.

    Critical Acclaim:

An aromatic red, sporting black currant and violet aromas and flavors, accented by black pepper and clove. This is firmly structured, with a long, saturated finish

This wine was a mixed experience, I ordered 6 bottles 4 were smooth and fruity and 2 were not. I would still order this wine again.

Unmistakable Barbera style with high acid and low tannin. Pairs well with acidic foods, particularly tomato-based pasta sauces. Not a particularly distinguished example of Italian Barbera, but decent and affordable. I think the WS88 rating is about right.

It is a light less robust wine vs shiraz with hints of fennel and licorice taste. Pepper finish. A pleasant wine but not much fruit flavor such as blackberry or blueberry normally found in Barbera wine.
