    Winemaker's Notes:

The 2011 Patelin de Tablas marries the spice, mineral and structure of Syrah with the generous fruit of Grenache, the backbone of Mourvedre and the brightness of Counoise.

    Blend: 43% Grenache, 24% Mourvedre, 18% Syrah, 15% Counoise

    Critical Acclaim:

Bright ruby. Pungent raspberry and cherry pit on the nose, with dark chocolate and violet notes adding complexity. Juicy red fruit flavors are energized by tangy acidity, picking up sweetness with air. Shows a zesty mineral quality on the long, juicy finish, which shows only a hint of tannins. This energetic wines drinks very well right now.

Another great Tablas Creek offering for the price. Young but after a decanting opened very nicely and continued blossoming into the evening. A Paso Robles GSM at a great price. Bright red fruit with plenty structured backbone.

Tasted twice (Late 2012, Late 2013). This is an excellent example of a fruity, approachable, easy-drinking GSM, provided courtesy of Tablas Creek, a producer defined by mellow, terroir-driven wines. It's a steal at this price. The style is almost anathema to the rest of Paso Robles. Minimal oak, nice earthiness mingled with juicy red fruit, fully exploiting the quality Mourvedre from the region (like France's Bandol). Unlike the "big and bold," alcohol-laden steroid syrahs and zins from other much heralded producers in the region, you can actually drink this wine and enjoy your food at the same time! Sweet!

It may have been the bottle, but this wine was a huge surprise, and not in the good way. It had character, but a bitter aftertaste, and components that did not really come together. For the price, there are many other examples of this blend in California with better results.
