Red Hills Estate Pinot Noir is known as the "serious" Pinot Noir, more masculine than some of our other wines, and characterized by pronounced blackberry and black cherry flavors, spice notes, savory nuances of bacon, and a long satisfying finish.
From a vintage whose patterns (including full ripeness at sugar levels that still invited chaptalization) Matzinger likens to those of 2010 "and even more 2011" (the latter exciting from barrel, incidentally), the Archery Summit 2005 Pinot Noir Arcus Estate smells effusively of diverse, sachet-like dried flowers and herbs; smoky black tea; anisette; and distilled berry essences. Polished and expansive; suffused not only with a sense of animal fat but also of mouthwatering salinity; this delivers all of the floral and animal intrigue as well as textural allure that make Pinot especially worth purchasing, and finishes with haunting length.
