    Winemaker's Notes:

    The 2011 was made in exactly same way as the great 2010 vintage, and we believe it is equally as good as its predecessor. This wine is ripe and full-bodied with well-integrated acidity and tannins. Look for up-front notes of purple plum, blackberries and black cherries complemented by savory roasted meats and lavender.

    Critical Acclaim:

    Black cherries meld into plums and spices, followed by hints of leather, rose petals, mint and licorice. A rich, layered Syrah, the 2011 Colson Canyon Vineyard is one of the most voluptuous wines in this range. With time in the glass, the 2011 continues to blossom nicely, providing some clues as to where the future lies. A distinctly layered, fruit-driven Syrah, the 2011 is flat-out dazzling. Colson Canyon sits above the fog line, making it the warmest site Tensley works with.

    The only wine to see some new oak, the 2011 Colson Canyon Syrah is knockout stuff in this vintage! Meaty and complex, with plenty of dark berry fruit, olive, underbrush, violets, licorice and earth, it is full-bodied, deeply concentrated and has a textured, layered feel on the palate. Easily the best Colson Canyon Syrah I’ve tasted from Joey, this knockout effort will have 10-12 years of longevity.

    Still in its youth, this one is a little bit of a fruit bomb but lends fresh acidity for good balance. The mouthfeel, layering and power are superb; it is quite excellent now but I think it could use another three years in the cellar to mellow, shed tannins, and fully reveal its potential. For some, it will be over the top if consumed now (2013). There's a lot of stuff lurking beneath the dark berry fruit that has yet to emerge to the foreground. Tensley Colson Canyon: a tremendous value and superlative example of Santa Barbara Syrah (as usual).
