The Buccis have owned this magnificent 990-acre property since the early 1800s. In the course of the past two decades, Ampelio and star oenologist Giorgio Grai have reversed Italian tradition, producing whites characterized by superb structure and cellar life, and an easily approached, supple and readily enjoyable red.
The legendary Giorgio has implemented especially severe quality parameters, far above the current standards for the appellation: higher density of vines per acre, minuscule crop yields and a concentration and cellar life unmatched by any other Verdicchio!

Mostly grown and drunk in the northwest part of Spain,
Rias Baixas (in Galacia),
this grape is loved by almost
all who try it. A great alternative to Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and every other white grape, Albarino is
aromatically intense, like Sauvignon Blanc, but with a creamy texture on the palate. The flavors and aromas
of an Albarino range from peach to lime to vanilla to honeysuckle. The crisp finish on wines from this grape
makes it perfect for just about any seafood.
Grown mainly in the Rueda
district of Spain, Verdejo is also found in Australia. The grape is herbaceous and
fairly aromatic. It's also grown in Portugal where it's called Verdelho.
Once a too-often planted in Germany,
Muller-Thurgau is known for making wines of so-so character. A crossing
between Riesling and Sylvaner, this grape makes a lot of wine and most of it quaffable at best. Decent wines
of Muller-Thurgau are aromatic with a tinge of sweetness.
The most-planted white grape in the world. Odd, because most have never heard of it, but this white grape
covers the plains in Spain and with its acreage of vine, it wins the contest. Wines of the grape are pleasant
and the grape is often used to make blending wines.
Grown mainly in the region of the same name (within the Loire), Muscadet produces very easy drinking, light-bodied
wine with mineral notes and high acidity – often recommended to pair with oysters.

Abruzzi, Puglia, & Campania
Kind of central, kind of southern, this region is best known for it's wine, Montapulciano d'Abruzzi – this wine is made from the Montelpulciano grape, unlike Vino Nobile di Montelpulciano, made with a Sangiovese clone in the region of Montelpuliciano. The Montelpulciano grape is happiest here in Abruzzi and the wine is rustic, yet soft and often fruity. The best part is that it's also good value and super food-friendly.
Sometimes called Apuglia outside of Italy, the area is known for making wine from the Zinfandel-related Primitivo variety. It sits on the Adriatic coast, facing Greece, and enjoys a Mediterranean climate. A productive wine region, Puglia makes a lot of wine, some of it not so high quality. Luckily, the good wine is exported and is of excellent value.
Perhaps better known for the city of Naples than the wine produced, Campania does have a couple of wines worth recognition. First, the white known as Greco di Tufo – an indigenous variety, Greco produces white wine that is dry, with a subtle nutty flavor. The best-known red here is Taurasi, made from the Aglianico grape, producing a wine of distinct color and flavor, with aromas of tar and leather.
