    Winemaker's Notes:

Deep golden color and fine, vivacious bubbles, predicting fullness and elegance. Aromas of flowers in bloom, ripe and dried fruit, marzipan, gingerbread and citrus fruits. Flavors of hazelnut, nougat, barley sugar, jellied and citrus fruits, almonds, brioche and honey.

    Critical Acclaim:

I freely concede that it's impossible there could have been any change in winemaking that would have filtered through into the Krug Grande Cuvee after Krug was acquired by LVMH, but the wines seemed fresher (and better). I hasten to add the wine is as imperiously complex, rich and mouthfilling as ever, a blend of more than 100 parcels of pinot noir, chardonnay and pinot meunier spanning eight to 10 vintages that spends six years on lees prior to disgorgement. It has a fascinating squeaky acidity that is a chord providing the ultimate harmony and balance of a truly superb wine.

Rich, with smoky hints of roasted almond and toasted brioche, this crystalline Champagne offers a finely detailed mousse that carries the firm, citrusy acidity and flavors of patisserie apple, spun honey and tangy black cherry, accented by subtle, aromatic hints of ground cumin and clove, bergamot and chamomile. Disgorged August 2013.

With its minimum of six years' bottle aging, this is a beautifully integrated, mature wine. It has a wonderful toast character, layered over sliced pears and ripe acidity. With its complex poise between lightness and richness, this remains an intensely impressive wine.

Bright yellow-gold. Expressive, toasty bouquet of poached pear, white peach and orange zest, with toasted nut and anise nuances adding complexity. Dry and focused on the palate, offering ripe orchard fruit, buttered toast and ginger flavors that gain weight with air. Shows a suave blend of richness and tension, finishing with excellent clarity and lingering smoke, nut and gingerbread flavors. I'll bet that this Champagne will be even better with another five to ten years of bottle age.

A heady beehive of vinous complexity, this is driven by the layered depths of reserve wines. There's a purity at its center, a dark-fruited intensity that ranges from cherries to fruity wild mushroom savor. Structured by oak, the texture sustains a silken feel, as does the stream of bubbbles. Luscious and compelling.

Krug's MV Grande Cuvée is weightless and totally graceful from start to finish. The current release is a distinctly fresh, floral version of the Grand Cuvée, with tons of brightness in its aromas and flavors, but less in the way of the oxidative notes that are sometimes present in Grand Cuvée. Still, there is a lot to like here. This is one of the most beautiful Grand Cuvées I have tasted over the last few years. This release is based on the 2005 vintage, and includes wines back to 1990. This is Lot 411046. Disgorged: 2011.

I've had Cristal Rose, I have had Dom Perignon, but this was BY far the best. It was very bold, and acidic with a heavy effervescence. 80% tasted like it was blended with older wines, the remaining with younger wines. Not quite as uniform as a wine from 1 vintage, but nevertheless, an exquisite wine. Highly recommended

Fresh, subtle citrus & fruit nose w/ fresh grape, citrus & bread dough flavor. Marvelous, lingering taste that is full & sweet, but not too sweet, on the lips. A tiny pepper & ginger aftertaste teases you for minutes afterwards. You will read many glowing reviews of this wine but none say it better than the one that states "...what God gives his angels when they have been especially good." Awesome!

Gave this 3 out of 5 now, but gets much better over time. Drank an older (red) label Krug NV couple months ago, and the difference is mind-blowing. Only worth the money if you cellar it for 3-5 years, or just buy the vintage 1998.

I didn't enjoy this version of Krug, and very disappointed with the flavor. I had started a new years tradition with Krug and the Previous year had a bottle of the 2005 brut reserve/vintage. I would post a review on this site but cant find the 2005 anywhere (it had a yellow label black neck.) Overall I had a disappointing experience and to be honest I poured it right down the drain.
