A sophisticated blend in the Bordeaux tradition, this Newton Vineyard Claret is a dark garnet color with vibrant, lifted aromas of black cherry and currant supported by spicy and smoky hints of nutmeg and white pepper. The palate reveals blueberry, black plum and black cherry with a white pepper spice indicative of cool climate mountain fruit. The creamy mid-palate and silky tannins make this medium-weight wine an approachable, appealing choice.

This well balanced wine complements grilled meat dishes nicely, but will also prove versatile with a wide variety of foods from hearty pasta dishes to braised beef.

    Critical Acclaim:

Dense, inky blackish-purple hue. Pretty flavorings of boysenberry, maple and violets. Tart black cherry flavors with hints of black pepper supported by oaky tannins. Tangy finish with a continued black fruit, spice and backing acids.

Deep burgundy color with a saturated red grape & cassis nose. The taste follows the aroma plus blackberry, blueberry jam & vanilla/oak toast. Mild tannins but decent acidity makes it drinkable w/ or w/o food. This is a very nice wine, but too dense to call a Claret. It's a good value ~ $18 - $20. S17.5
