Inhabiting the slopes of Mt. Etna in Sicily for the last thousand years, Carricante is the dominant grape in the Etna Bianco DOC blends, with Catarratto as a possible minor blending partner. The best examples come from volcanic soils at higher altitudes where a marked diurnal temperature shift allows slow and steady ripening and the development of Carricante’s naturally high acidity.
Tasting Notes for Carricante
Carricante is a dry white wine with a medium body and fairly high acidity. Lime zest, yellow apple, apricot, mineral, smoke, saline and dried herb are qualities often found in Carricante.
