Over the years, the Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet has gotten better and better. The wine is generally elegant and smooth on the palate. The 2006 is really delish, with plenty of tart red currant flavors; soft tannins and a nice easiness on the palate; smooth and layered in the finish; some tannins still there, but they are delicate and well incorporated in the overall character of the wine. Not clear if this is a long-term ager, but you definitely want to give it a good decanting of at least four hours. You should even pour the glasses and let them stand for an hour. The interaction with oxygen with open the wine up and allow it to express its herbal, soft deliciousness. Airing also emphasizes the cherry and red currant fruit, letting the palate enjoy this complex, tannic wine at its best.
