Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

Bountiful aromas of black cherry and raspberry with notes of violets and warm spice lift from the glass. Echoing the aromas of cherry and raspberry with medium-bodied richness and silky tannins. Then leading into a smooth, lush mid-palate of sweet clove and coconut mixed with warm spices lingering on the finish.

Professional Ratings

Its floral and fruit-toned aromas, this Pinot Noir sends up a treasure trove of cinnamon and chocolate to season its earthy, woodsy profile. Streamlined notes of cherry, pomegranate, and hibiscus are glossy on the palate. Aged in stainless steel and French and American oak.

Butternut, California
Butternut produces Chardonnay from grapes sourced from a number of different California vineyards to broaden the flavor profile and enhance your drinking experience. The growing regions include Napa, Sonoma, Sierra Foothills and Monterey. Aromas of peach, hazelnut and spiced candied apple leap from the glass. On the palette, Butternut exhibits round, creamy notes of fig, butterscotch and sweet oak. Butternut is like your mother's Chardonnay, only better.

Internationally recognized for gorgeous, pure fruit combined with great elegance, California Pinot noir thrives among the state’s cooler, coastal zones. Characterized by eclectic flavors and aromas of strawberry, black cherry, plum and potpourri with notes of forest floor, mushroom or black tea, the best California Pinot noir boast a supple texture and good acidity, giving them the ability to improve with age.

Credited with the beginning of Pinot noir’s glory in California, two growers, Joe Rochioli and Joseph Swan in the late 1960s independently planted Pinot noir vineyards in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County. Today Sonoma County remains the leading producer of Pinot noir in the state, and Pinot noir is the leading red grape in the county, achieving its highest potential, in the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast.

Other coastal appellations where Pinot noir flourishes include Carneros, Anderson Valley and most of the Central Coast.
