The fruit for Francis Coppola Sofia Blanc de Blancs is grown in the cool vineyards of the Arroyo Secoin northern Monterey County. Known for its Burgundian-like climate, Monterey offers idealconditions for Pinot Blanc, which include a long growing season and soils that accentuatethe alluring floral characteristics inherent in this varietal.

The 2006 Sofia Blanc de Blancs exudes fresh aromas of peaches, apricots, and tropical fruit, as well as a light perfume of lemon cream. Like Italy's bestProsecco, this wine is vibrant and crisp, displaying bright flavors on thepalate and seductive notes of honeysuckle on the finish.

Francis Ford Coppola Winery, re-opened in July 2010, is the latest venture from Francis Ford Coppola, whose passion for wine, food and adventure is nowhere more evident than in this new production – a winery resort located in the heart of Alexander Valley, California. Among the many attractions at the property, Francis Ford Coppola Winery features a wine tasting bar, two restaurants, swimming pools, a movie gallery, a performing arts pavilion and a park area with game tables and bocce courts.

Francis puts it best, saying the winery is meant to be "a wine wonderland, a park of pleasure where people of all ages can enjoy all the best things in life – food, wine, music, dancing, games, swimming and performances of all types. A place to celebrate the love of life."

California enjoys a long history and proven reputation as an admirable source of sparkling wines. Agoston Haraszthy, who established Buena Vista Winery in the mid 1850s, first attempted to make traditional method sparkling wine in California in the 1870s. Shortly thereafter Korbel followed, and with great success. Today domestic producers such as Schramsberg, Iron Horse and J. Wine Co remain at the forefront of the market.

Since the 1970s the state has consistently attracted the attention and investment of large and respected European and French-based firms who are responsible for Domaine Chandon, Mumm-Napa Valley, Roederer Estate and Domaine Carneros (Taittinger), to name a few. Anderson Valley and Carneros remain standout regions for top quality Pinot noir and Chardonnay for these.
