Winemaker Notes

On the nose, this pretty wine is fresh with floral red fruits, rose petals and violet with sweet cinnamon and salty spices (clove, pepper). It is elegant and complex with pleasant tannins and a long and fruity finish. This wine is from several of the estates Garnacha plots. It is macerated for 15 days and undergoes natural alcoholic fermentation, never rising above 24ºC. Malolactic fermentation takes place naturally in concrete tanks and wooden vats after which the wines are aged for 6 months.

A red with lovely purity of fruit, showing plums and blackberries, as well as chocolate and walnuts. Medium body, medium round tannins and a fresh, fruity finish. From organically grown grapes.

Sarada Calizo, Spain

The 225 hectares of ecological vineyards located at the foothills of the legendary mountains of Almansa known as El Mugrón are the largest single planting of the Garnacha Tintorera (Alicante Bouschet) variety in Europe. This privileged location has abundant water and excellent soil, with a natural micro-climate that guarantees suitable conditions for ecological production of the singular wines that became part of the MGWines Group as Bodegas Venta la Vega Territorio Ecologico in 2017. The addition of DOP Almansa to the Group’s unique collection of DOs (Regional Designation of Origin) is aligned with its commitment to outstanding wines, native varieties, sustainable projects and respect for the environment.

Spanish red wine is known for being bold, heady, rustic and age-worthy, Spain is truly a one-of-a-kind wine-producing nation. A great majority of the country is hot, arid and drought-ridden, and since irrigation has only been recently introduced and (controversially) accepted, viticulture has sustained—and flourished—only through a great understanding of Spain’s particular conditions. Large spacing between vines allows each enough resources to survive and as a result, the country has the most acreage under vine compared to any other country, but is usually third in production.

Of the Spanish red wines, the most planted and respected grape variety is Tempranillo, the star of Spain’s Rioja and Ribera del Duero regions. Priorat specializes in bold red blends, Jumilla has gained global recognition for its single varietal Monastrell and Utiel-Requena has garnered recent attention for its reds made of Bobal.
