Winemaker Notes
Deep purple in color, this is a mineral and fresh Malbec. Floral notes and red fruit aromas on the nose are followed by a rich and medium bodied palate that enhances the fruit profile of this wine. Round tannins that add up to a long finish.

Vinous
The 2019 Malbec Zaha is co-fermented with 12% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot from the Toko vineyard in Paraje Altamira, Uco Valley. The wine was aged for 12 months in 1/3 new French barrels. Purplish red in the glass. The expressive nose begins with fresh plum alongside cherry and violets accompanied by an undercurrent of country herbs. Iin the mouth where a terse texture is joined by a prominent chalky feel, juicy freshness and a nimble flow. The result is a subtle, thirst-quenching palate. The 2019 is a textbook Malbec for the region, anchored in purity.

James Suckling
Lavender, blackberry, black cherry, cedar and walnut husk on the nose. It’s full-bodied with polished tannins. Concentrated and creamy with a deep core of ripe black and blue fruit.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2019 Zaha Malbec was co-fermented with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot from Altamira with 15% full clusters and indigenous yeasts and matured for 15 months in 500-liter oak barrels, 15% of them new. While riper, this is fresher than the 2017 I tasted last time, and it has harmony and integration of the oak, showing a faint note of spices on the finish. The palate is silky, juicy and very balanced, with clean and focused flavors.

This red has aromas of blackberry and raspberry, with hints of vanilla. Chalky tannins frame flavors of fruit and spice alongside good acidity. The finish lingers.

Most distinguished and celebrated from Argentina’s Mendoza, Malbec has seen runaway success since the early 2000s. Mendoza’s agreeable, continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold snowy winters allows the perfect conditions for growing outstanding Malbec. This grape is easy to like for its lusty, deep flavors and aromas of blackberry, plum, red cherry, autumn spice and tilled earth. It’s easy to find delicious, fruit-driven, affordable everyday examples and in prices beyond, quite exceptional ones with dense, supple textures that make them capable of aging.
