Winemaker Notes

This expressive and full bodied Petite Sirah exhibits a deep purple hue, revealing an assortment of wild berries, violets, licorice, pencil lead shavings, roasted coffee beans, and fresh tobacco. The texture is gorgeous with richness and layers that give way to the long vibrant finish.

COMMENTARY: The 2017 Adaptation by Odette Petite Sirah deftly combines power with finesse. TASTING NOTES: This wine comes to the fore with active aromas and flavors of blackberry and violets. Enjoy it with a well-spiced roast leg of lamb. (Tasted: August 14, 2021, San Francisco, CA)

Adaptation presents a chance for the Odette Estate winemaking team to explore vineyards outside the verdant walls of our Stag’s Leap Estate. Here, we can partner with trusted friends and growers from across the Napa Valley to produce eminently approachable and seductive Cabernets, Petite Sirahs and other varietals that occasionally strike our fancy and present them to our customers at competitive pricing. These are our favorite “Tuesday night wines”.

Undoubtedly proving its merit over and over, Napa Valley is a now a leading force in the world of prestigious red wine regions. Though Cabernet Sauvignon dominates Napa Valley, other red varieties certainly thrive here. Important but often overlooked include Merlot and other Bordeaux varieties well-regarded on their own as well as for their blending capacities. Very old vine Zinfandel represents an important historical stronghold for the region and Pinot noir is produced in the cooler southern parts, close to the San Pablo Bay.

Perfectly situated running north to south, the valley acts as a corridor, pulling cool, moist air up from the San Pablo Bay in the evenings during the hot days of the growing season, which leads to even and slow grape ripening. Furthermore the valley claims over 100 soil variations including layers of volcanic, gravel, sand and silt—a combination excellent for world-class red wine production.
