Winemaker Notes

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is a well-structured wine that combines power with richness. Bright aromas of red currant and plum lead to complex flavors of blackberry and mocha. On the palate the wine shows excellent balance and expression of fruit framed by firm, sweet tannins that bring elegance and finesse to the finish.

A beautifully elegant, stylish Cabernet Sauvignon from the Antinori outpost in Napa Valley, their 2013 has a dense ruby/purple color, a beautiful, sweet kiss of pure blackcurrant fruit, licorice and forest floor. Full-bodied, but with creamy texture, sweet, beautifully integrated acidity, tannin and alcohol, this is an impressively well-crafted wine that’s drinkable now, but should evolve nicely for another 15-20 years.

Intriguing aromas of walnut, shiitake mushroom and dark fruits follow through to a full body, round and velvety tannins and a bright finish. A vivid and silky mouthfeel. Long finish. Drink or hold.
  • 94
Elegant and on the more austere side of the variety, this wine is graceful and complex. Tight-grained waves of cherry, cranberry and cassis marry well with its velvety texture and restrained use of oak.

Antinori’s 1,200-acre estate in the eastern hills of Napa includes 600 acres of vines, the reds planted on rocky soils at elevations that reach 1,800 feet, well above the fog line. The sunniness of the spot comes across in the initial scents of baked sour cherries and peaches, along with tough tannins that take days of air to relent. The mountain-grown tannins are less bitter 24 hours later, and with 48 hours, the fruit and tannins have bonded into a sour cherry and mineral weave, with the warm spice of the sunny days and the cool freshness of fruit preserved by nights at high elevation. Built to cellar.

ANTICA is a symbol for Antinori California and expresses in Italian our family's passion for winemaking passed along 26 generations.

Napa Valley has a special place in my heart beginning with my first visit in 1966, having the free spirit coming from a new frontier, a wonderful history, and the potential to produce world-class wines.

Our wine estate is located on a high plain in the eastern mountains of the celebrated Napa Valley. Its hilly terrain, rocky soils, high elevations and beautiful landscape create above all an estate ideal for winegrowing.

A noble variety bestowed with both power and concentration, Cabernet Sauvignon enjoys success all over the globe, its best examples showing potential to age beautifully for decades. Cabernet Sauvignon flourishes in Bordeaux's Medoc where it is often blended with Merlot and smaller amounts of some combination of Cabernet Franc, Malbecand Petit Verdot. In the Napa Valley, ‘Cab’ is responsible for some of the world’s most prestigious, age-worthy and sought-after “cult” wines. Somm Secret—DNA profiling in 1997 revealed that Cabernet Sauvignon was born from a spontaneous crossing of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in 17th century southwest France.

Just northeast of Napa city, Atlas Peak boasts some of Napa Valley’s highest elevation vineyards. Here the intense sunlight coupled with cool, nighttime temperatures produce grapes that are perfectly ripe, balanced and concentrated. The appellation is rich in volcanic soils and excels in the production of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
