AusVetia Shiraz 2002
Complex array of red and black fruit aromas and flavours plus spice components; 24 months in oak largely integrated.
Dark red. Exotic oak spice and red berry liqueur on the nose, with a smoky overlay. Very sweet and fat, with a velvet texture and lush raspberry, kirsch, black toffee, molasses and coconut flavors. But this isn't heavy or viscous. The oak stands out right now but this has fruit to burn. Finishes with great power and a sweet note of maraschino cherry, with big but rounded tannins.
A blend of fruit from McLaren Vale, Barossa, and Coonawarra, AusVetia’s inky/ruby/purple-tinged 2002 Shiraz offers peppery scents of blackberries and cassis as well as some blatant new oak. My instincts suggest the latter component will become better integrated with more time in the bottle. With supple tannin and a generous, broad personality, it should evolve for a decade or more.
