Winemaker Notes

It exhibits greater aromatic complexity, richness with mineral and blueberry notes leading to a savory and spicy wine nicely balanced and very easy to drink.

Pair with paella, pasta (noodles, spaghetti, macaroni), white and blue fish, goat cheese, cold meat, vegetables, lentil soup, peas, mushroom, beef, chicken, roast meat, red and white grill meat.

Critical Acclaim

WE 89
Wine Enthusiast

This wine is fresh as can be, with loads of friendly black-fruit aromas upfront. The palate is juicy and bright, not the least bit hard or tannic, with huge flavors of berry fruits, baking spices, chocolate and even some bacon.

ST 89
International Wine Cellar

Inky ruby. Dark berry liqueur and mocha on the nose, with complicating notes of licorice and sassafras. Sappy blueberry and blackberry flavors show very good depth and pick up a spicy quality with air. Finishes with good breadth, supple tannins and lingering smokiness.

Bodegas Ateca
Bodegas Ateca is a joint project between the Gil winery family and the well-known importer, Jorge Ordonez. The bodegas is located in the Calatayud region of northeastern Spain. The majority of the vineyards are grown in highly permeable and healthy soils with a high amount of limestone. The soils are rocky, loose and low in nutrients. The climate in this region varies vastly from day to night, allowing for more balance between acidity and alcohol.

The main varietal here is Garnacha grown from old-vines up to 80-100 years old.
