Intense cherry. La Nieta displays aromas of mineral notes, ripe fruit leading to a full bodied, voluminous, intense wine, with structure and an outstanding balance.

    Bodegas Eguren Winery Image
Six generations of wine growers since 1870. This family tradition is what motivates the Eguren Ugarte Winery in Laguardia in the heart of Rioja Alavesa.

In the foothills of the Sierra Cantabria and surrounded by 130 hectares of vines, this winery follows the philosophy that its founder Vitorino Eguren was very clear about. The idea was to embrace the spirit of welcoming and looking after visitors, which had been typical of the Rioja Alavesa farmers for centuries.

A place to learn about and enjoy the wine experience, to relive memories exploring the 2,000 metres of caves.

Hailed as the star red variety in Spain’s most celebrated wine region, Tempranillo from Rioja, or simply labeled, “Rioja,” produces elegant wines with complex notes of red and black fruit, crushed rock, leather, toast and tobacco, whose best examples are fully capable of decades of improvement in the cellar.

Rioja wines are typically a blend of fruit from its three sub-regions: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental, although specific sub-region (zonas), village (municipios) and vineyard (viñedo singular) wines can now be labeled. Rioja Alta and Alavesa, at the highest elevations, are considered to be the source of the brightest, most elegant fruit, while grapes from the warmer and drier, Rioja Oriental, produce wines with deep color, great body and richness.
