The 2009 Carmine Monastrell (100%) spent 6 months in new oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it sports a nose of smoke, mocha, brier, underbrush, blueberry, and blackberry. Sweetly-fruited, ripe, and well-balanced, this lengthy effort will offer optimum drinking through 2019.

Murtia’s winemaker, Gabriel Martinez, creates exceptional wines from the vineyards of Canada del Cerro, which have soil rich in broken granite.

The vines, planted in trellis and bush, are all over 25 years old. The grapes are hand harvested and fermentation is done in small tanks without crushing. 50% malolactic is used while in the cask. The wine spends 5 months in new French and American oak casks and is bottles unfined and unfiltered.
