Winemaker Notes

Delicate bouquet with notes of berries. At the palate, it seduces by the subtle intensity of its aromas and its tenderness. Good aging potential.

Pair with white meats in sauce and game birds (quail, pigeon).

An intense nose, with deep concentration of red berries, pomegranate and rose in this wine. The palate has an elegant wash of acidity, cutting the richness of fruit and florality. The tannins are powerful and sometartness is evident, creating a scrumptious winethat will soften with further aging.

The 2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières wafts from the glass with notions of rich berry fruit, cherries and plums mingled with smoke and spices. Medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with fine concentration, powdery tannins and a long, perfumed finish, it's a sleeper of the vintage well worth seeking out.

A lively red, with a pure, focused band of cherry and strawberry fruit. Gains interest from vegetal and spice accents as this cruises to the lingering, spicy finish. Well-structured and long.

  • 90
A rich and velvety, almost massive wine for this appellation that's traditionally associated with cool elegance, even crispness. Full blackberry and damson-plum aromas with some savory notes. Ample but not chewy tannins power the finish. A touch more freshness would have make this much more exciting. From an almost 4-hectare plot. From organically grown grapes. Drink now.

Bouchard Pere & Fils Winery Video

Established in 1731, Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest and most diverse Estate in Burgundy with approximately 130 ha (320 acres) of vineyards, the majority of which are Premiers and Grands Crus. Highly sought after, their wines benefit from optimal ageing conditions in the underground cellars of the Château de Beaune, the former 15th century royal fortress that the Domaine has occupied since 1820. Bouchard Père & Fils doesn't make wines; they bring them into existence. Cultivation and vinification, on a plot-by-plot basis, are a form of craftmanship that they pride themselves on which has led to the utmost respect for their terroirs. Bouchard Père & Fils obtained the highest level of sustainable agricultural certification (HVE3) in 2015, being the first in the Côte d'Or to do so.

Thin-skinned, finicky and temperamental, Pinot Noir is also one of the most rewarding grapes to grow and remains a labor of love for some of the greatest vignerons in Burgundy. Fairly adaptable but highly reflective of the environment in which it is grown, Pinot Noir prefers a cool climate and requires low yields to achieve high quality. Outside of France, outstanding examples come from in Oregon, California and throughout specific locations in wine-producing world. Somm Secret—André Tchelistcheff, California’s most influential post-Prohibition winemaker decidedly stayed away from the grape, claiming “God made Cabernet. The Devil made Pinot Noir.”

Savigny-lès-Beaune is a small village near Beaune that produces delightful red and white wines under its own appellation name. Cut by a river, the vineyards on its southern side have sandy soils that result in charming, floral reds. Premiers Crus vineyards on this side include Les Peuillets, Les Narbantons, Les Rouvrettes and Les Marconnets.

On Savigny’s northern side, bordering Pernand-Vergelles, vineyards are planted on rocky soils and produce juicy and spicy Pinot Noir. The village’s best whites, all made of Chardonnay, are full on the palate and abound in texture, complexity and freshness.
