Winemaker Notes

Isliedh is enjoyment with great food which will reward for many years to come. The wine displays a complex array of Stone fruit, Ioral elements, limes, grapefruit and spicy oak. The palate is rich, seductive and exotic while still retaining the characteristic Cape Point mineral edge.

Pair with Fresh line Gsh, Crayfish, rich chicken dishes and even duck!

Blend: 82% Sauvignon Blanc, 18% Semillon

The 2013 Isliedh Sauvignon Blanc includes 18% Semillon and is raised in 50% new oak. There are touches of wild mint, nettle and Japanese yuzu infusing the citrus fruit that is very well defined. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity, a fine mineralité here with a citric twist of lemon on the finish. It is not quite as immediate as previous vintages but the quality of the terroir is locked in here. It is an intriguing, cerebral Sauvignon Blanc from winemaker Duncan Savage.

Capable of a vast array of styles, Sauvignon Blanc is a crisp, refreshing variety that equally reflects both terroir and varietal character. Though it can vary depending on where it is grown, a couple of commonalities always exist—namely, zesty acidity and intense aromatics. This variety is of French provenance. Somm Secret—Along with Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc is a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon. That green bell pepper aroma that all three varieties share is no coincidence—it comes from a high concentration of pyrazines (herbaceous aromatic compounds) inherent to each member of the family.

Situated on the western edges of Cape Peninsula, the vineyards in this cool-climate, maritime district of Cape Town grow within one kilometer to the sea in most directions.

Cape Peninsula is recognized mainly for Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon and includes the small region of Constantia where the Dutch governor, Simon van der Stel founded an extremely successful vineyard in the 17th century.
