Cave de Pomerols HB Picpoul de Pinet 2011
One of their specialties, and it is consistently good, is the 2011 Picpoul de Pinet, often referred to as the Muscadet of southern France. This is a wine made from 100% Picpoul, which is known in other parts of Europe as Folle Blanche. Notes of Japanese green tea, lemongrass and grapefruit are characteristics of this crisp, dry, very satisfying wine, which is the quintessential dry white to quaff uncritically, although it is better than that description may suggest. It needs to be consumed in its exuberant, fresh, crisp youthfulness, so drink it over the next 12 months while waiting for the 2012s to be released.
