Winemaker Notes

This 2013 proves the point with its powerful aromatics of blueberry, blackberry, coriander, violet, dried thyme, and roasted espresso. The palate is filled with flavors of blueberries, cherries, vanilla, and dark chocolate. Truly a delicious and balanced wine.

The 2013 Malbec (a blend of 92% Malbec and 8% Merlot) is another small cuvée, at 300 cases. The color almost looks like the Syrah – opaque bluish/black to the rim. Spectacular blueberry, chocolate and mocha notes intermixed with a touch of oak, a full-bodied, multi-dimensional mouthfeel, and spectacular finish characterize this fabulous Malbec that might well be the finest Malbec I’ve had the pleasure of tasting in Northern California. Argentina better be careful if this is something that can be replicated on a wider scale. A killer wine, this is well worth going out of the way to latch onto a few bottles. Drink it over the next 25-30 years.

Chalk Hill Winery Winery Video

Perhaps no other winery captures the casual luxury of Sonoma County better than Chalk Hill Estate. Founded nearly four decades ago, this spectacular 1300-acre property features 300 acres of vineyards, wilderness areas, winery, hospitality center, culinary garden, residence, stables, equestrian pavilion, sports fields, fishing and swimming ponds, and guest houses.

The winery's vineyards are thoughtfully woven through the native foliage and contoured to fit the intricate terrain. More than two-thirds of the Chalk Hill Estate remains uncultivated. The higher elevations offer stunning views of the Russian River Valley to the west and the Mayacamas Mountains to the east.
