Aromas of currants and blackberries with spiced chocolate, dried herbs and wet stones. Medium- to full-bodied with fine tannins and vivid acidity. Structured and meaty. Shows freshness and juiciness to its deep, dark-fruited character. Toned, firm finish.

I loved the 2020 Château Cote De Baleau. This beauty has a rocking nose of red and black fruits supported by notes of tobacco, spice, and chalky minerality. Textured and medium to full-bodied, with velvety tannins and outstanding length, it’s a big, rich wine that stays nicely balanced.

Located in the village of Saint-Emilion, Côte de Baleau was founded in 1643. The Cuvelier family, owner of Clos Fourtet (First Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Emilion) and Chateau Poujeaux (AOC Moulis en Médoc), acquired Les Grandes Murailles (2 ha adjoining Clos Fourtet) and Côte de Baleau (18 ha of which 15 ha are classified). They also took stake in Le Clos Saint-Martin (1.3 ha), of which Sophie Fourcade (former director and co-owner of the three estates) remains the majority shareholder.
