Chateau Fombrauge 2004
Planted in the eastern half of Saint-Emilion, this Merlot-dominated vineyard also benefits from Cabernet Franc. That gives the aromatic nature of the powerful fruit. For the rest, there is richness, dark black juicy fruits and intensity, all held together by a fine structure.
A dark plum/ruby color is accompanied by a big, sweet black raspberry, cherry, lead pencil shavings, crushed rock, and spring flower-scented bouquet. Supple tannin, low acidity, and excellent ripeness characterize this hedonistic, well-made St.-Emilion. It should drink beautifully for 10-12 years.
Aromas of fresh mushroom, crushed berries and cedar follow through to a full-bodied palate, with silky tannins and a long, caressing finish. Balanced. A very pretty wine. Best after 2011.
