Chateau Fonplegade 2010
Grape Varieties: 95% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc
Concentrated black fruits intermixed with spring flowers, some high class, subtle toasty oak, graphite and a touch of blackberry and cassis all jump from the glass of this dense, full-bodied, formidably endowed, massive wine. It needs a good 5-7 years of cellaring. This could turn out to be one of the longest-lived wines ever made at Fonplegade, lasting 25-30 or more years.
Very jammy fruit, where the sweetness seems to dominate. It is accessible, the tannins open, opulent, with a ripe structure. It works though, as a rich wine.
Barrel Sample: 90-92 Points
Focused and precise, with pretty dark fruits and hints of vanilla. Full and silky. Very attractive.
Barrel Sample: 90-91 Points
Dark linzer torte and currant preserves notes are allied to a solid graphite spine and backed by a licorice-infused finish. Drink now through 2021.
