Winemaker Notes

The handsome color has evolved. The tasting is marked by both the great softness at the base as well as notes or aromas of rather heavy wild game. The whole has a beautiful harmony. Its rich aromas, its softness, and its chunkiness make it a particularly rich bottle with an aptitude to age well.

Critical Acclaim

WS 97
Wine Spectator

An extremely impressive, yet slightly hard wine; still closed, but could be as great as the 1952. Dark ruby in color and very aromatic, with a rich cherry aromas. Full-bodied, with full tannins and plenty of fruit, yet very closed and tight on the finish.

Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion
In 1664, Madame de Lestonnac bequeathed the domaine of La Mission Haut-Brion to the Peres Lazaristes, a congregation founded by Saint Vincent de Paul. The "good fathers" worked to restore their property to its rightful worth. After them, the Chiapella family (owners in the 19th century) and Woltner family (owners between 1919 and 1983) never stopped improving the vineyard and modernizing the cellars. Since 1983, the Dillon family, already owner of Chateau Haut-Brion, continues the same policy under the presidency of H.R.H. Prince Robert of Luxembourg.
