A touch of bean puree and tapenade to the smoked currant leaves, citrus and red berries. Linear on the medium-bodied palate with juicy fruit and a lightly chewy finish. Chocolate. Gritty tannins.

Decanter
Sweet red flowers and red fruits on the nose. Lovely softness and gentleness here, there is concentration but it's subtly presented. Silky smooth, ripe and softly fleshy. Everything is just wrapped up carefully, succulent and softly chalky. It does have that hit of sweet cedar and clove on the finish reminding of the power but the texture and overall appeal is lovely.

Black fruits, ripe herbs, chocolate, and spicy oak notes all emerge from the 2021 Château La Patache, a bigger 2021 Pomerol that has ample fruit, fine-grained, polished tannins, terrific overall balance, and outstanding length. It brings more fruit and opulence than most in the vintage and will evolve for 10-12 years if well stored, possibly longer.

The plots are located on soils of a wide variety and complexity - soil composed of fine gravels with crasse de fer and clay in the subsoil.
La Patache is a locality on the national road 89 (Bordeaux-Lyon), whose name evokes this kind of coaches which went there in ancient times. Indeed, in the nineteenth century, « les pataches » were horse carriages that served as stagecoach in the countryside. The locality La Patache in Pomerol can be found on the first Napoleonic maps.
The original stone buildings were in fact former a post office at the entrance of Libourne. It is in the renovated stables that in 2012 we installed a modern winery and cellars. The old post office building has been refitted into a barrel cellar.
