Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Reaut gives up warm black plums, crushed blackberries and cassis scents with hints of pencil lead, wild thyme, tar and smoked meats. Medium-bodied, the palate is packed with juicy black fruits and savory layers with a firm frame of grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long.

Fully into its stride, with soft blackcurrant, vibrant cherry, spice and warm gravel tones, in what is a fine-grained, classy claret ripe for drinking.

I love the ripe blackcurrants, blueberries and delicate herbs in this wine. They enable it to carry the generous dry tannins very well and they drive the long finish. A blend of 58 per cent merlot, 37 per cent cabernet sauvignon and five per cent cabernet franc. Needs some time to resolve all the structure, so better from 2020.

Chateau Reaut Winery Image
In 2003, a prestigious Champagne house decided to create an exceptional Bordeaux for its international export sales channel. Following a comprehensive selection process and in depth soils analysis, the decision was made to purchase Chateau Reaut, an underperforming estate located in the Côtes de Bordeaux appellation and with amazing potential: hillside vineyard with South exposure and great variety of soils. From 2004 onwards, the vineyard was totally replanted with a high density of 5,500 vines per hectare.

In 2009, the first vintage was produced with great results, however, the strategy of the Champagne house took a new direction and the project was abandoned in 2010, paradoxically when the estate started producing exceptional vintages.

A group of personal Burgundy and Bordeaux friends, 6 of each, all passionate wine professionals, bought the estate in 2011. This unique and original combination of friendship and shared vision from Burgundians and Bordelais is symbolized in the label’s crest with the leopard for Bordeaux and azure-gold colors for Burgundy.

To add to this, the vineyard opened to more than 400 private investors from 15 countries. Each of them as co-owner become a real Chateau Réaut Ambassador.

Thanks to his high density and exceptional soils, the vineyard produces a super qualitative yet affordable Bordeaux wine for international modern wine lovers. The estate moreover benefits from the advices and know-how of some of its associates, also managers of well-known Bordeaux Grands Crus Classés.

In most of France, wines are named by their place of origin and not by the type of grape (with the exception of Alsace). Just like a red Burgundy is by law, always made of Pinot noir, a red Bordeaux is a blended wine composed mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Depending on the laws of the village from which the grapes come, the conditions of the vintage and decisions of the winemaker, the blend can be further supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot and in rare cases, Carmenere. So popular and repeated has this mix of grape varieties become worldwide, that the term, Bordeaux Blend, refers to a wine blended in this style, regardless of origin.
