Winemaker Notes

The 2007 vintage brought us extraordinary fruit in the Stags Leap District. A dry spring and a warm year in comparison to the previous two vintages greatly reduced the berry size on our property. The result was a harvest which produced wines of great concentration and depth, power and elegance. The 2007 Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon is a great representative of the breadth of the fruit. It has power and finesse with striking body and generous aromas.

The wine displays a deep ruby red color, with an aroma of cassis, blackberries and plums along with vanilla, mocha and clove. There is unquestionable richness in the palate. Full burst of beautiful fruit followed by mid palate unctuousness. the finsih is long and very, very silky.

This is Chimney Rock's best Stags Leap Cabernet since the 2005, and continues a string of successful vintages. Dry and smooth and silky in the mouth, it’s pretty tannic, but very rich, offering waves of cherry, blackberry, blueberry, cocoa and sweet cedar flavors. Absolutely delicious, wonderfully elegant, and should age well for a decade.

Supple and harmonious, offering tapered plum, wild berry and cedar notes, with complex spices and touches of black licorice and nutmeg. Full-bodied and intense, yet elegant and stylish, ending with a subtle burst of sweet ripe plum. Drink now through 2021.

Situated on the famed Silverado Trail in Napa Valley's renowned Stags Leap District, Chimney Rock is recognized as one of the world's premier fine wine producers. Chimney Rock was established in 1984 with the goal of creating wines that emulate the quintessence of Stags Leap District and epitomize dualities of power and grace and finesse and muscle. The estate's location in the Stags Leap District, Napa Valley's smallest and most acclaimed sub-appellation, allows winemaker, Elizabeth Vianna to capture this unique terroir and create wines that rival the most important wines of the world. Chimney Rock is a Terlato Family winery and embodies the family's dedication to producing wines of exceptional quality.

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
