Winemaker Notes
The Emmaline Ann Vineyard sits perched on the southern hillside of Jonive Rd. just above the Freestone Valley. Planted in 1998, this site is surrounded by conifers that contribute to the organic build-up of the soil. Every year this vineyard produces our most elegant and feminine wine in the portfolio while amazingly displaying both red and dark fruits.

Decanter
Always true to its feminine name, the 2018 Emmaline Ann Pinot Noir is a textbook showing of the most understated and seductive wine in the Cobb roster. The nose is filled with both fresh and dried flowers, sewn together with its classic pomegranate and bing cherry fruit profile. The palate is long and clean with a touch more zing than I have found in past vintages. A refreshing note of tangerine zest carries the finish beautifully.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2018 Pinot Noir Emmaline Ann Vineyard comes from vines planted in 1998 and is usually made with a higher proportion of whole cluster than other wines in the Cobb portfolio, around 40% to 60% depending on vintage. Pale, vibrant ruby in color, its scents of ripe cranberries and blood orange peel are pure and intense, with tones of earth and Angostura bitters. The palate is grainy and fresh with full, spicy flavors and a long, layered finish. It’s a very pure, detailed expression of Emmaline Ann.

Jeb Dunnuck
From a vineyard is situated roughly 700 feet elevation on a west-facing, cool site. the 2018 Pinot Noir Emmaline Ann Vineyard is ripe with wild strawberry, cinnamon spice, pine, and wet stone. The palate is fresh with crunchy red fruit, pomegranate, forest floor and tea leaf. The palate is medium-bodied and ripe up front, with fine tannins and fresh acid.

The Sonoma Coast AVA is large in area but, not counting overlapping regions like Russian River Valley, only has a few thousand acres of grapevines—and it’s no wonder. Much of the region is rugged and not easily accessible. Its proximity to the Pacific Ocean’s fog and cool breezes limits the varieties that can be cultivated, but it proves to be an ideal environment for high quality Pinot Noir.
Since fog is a frequent fact of life here, as are heavy marine layers that sometimes bring rain, the best vineyards are wisely planted above the fog line, on picturesque ridges that capture enough sun to provide even ripening. That, with the overnight drop in temperature that reliably preserves acidity, results in fine expressions of Pinot Noir that often receive tremendous critic and consumer praise alike, and are often in high demand.
