    Winemaker Notes

Our 2014 THE Cab is deep ruby red in color with aromas of blackcurrant, kumquat, sandalwood and baking spices. This mediumbodied wine showcases structured tannins and layers of flavorslike dried cherries and dark roast coffee that continue to evolveand linger. Pair this young Cabernet with your grilled favorites.

A young Cabernet Sauvignon loves grilled dishes, as the charred nature of the meat mirrors the edginess of the tannins in the wine.

Cosentino Winery is renowned for creating the first designated and licensed Meritage wine, Bordeaux inspired blend that set the standard that others would follow in Napa Valley.

Cosentino Winery made its first wines with its inaugural vintage released in 1981. In 1989 Cosentino released “The Poet”; one of America’s first designated and licensed Meritage wine. Shortly after in 1990 THE Series was introduced with THE Zin, showcasing the best grapes from the Lodi AVA and paving the way for THE Series of wines. THE Series is now Cosentino's largest volume collection of wine from the Lodi AVA.

Today Cosentino Winery has grown in quality and reputation and continues to gain recognition for innovative winemaking. After over 35 years of winemaking, Cosentino's commitment to the future is still focused on producing quality ultra-premium wines.

Lodi is justifiably lauded for its old vine Zinfandels, but it is a production powerhouse when it comes to Cabernet Sauvignon. Lodi and its surrounding area (San Joaquin County) rank third in the state in acres planted to Cab, behind Napa and Paso Robles/San Luis Obispo County. But in total tons crushed Lodi is number one by a wide margin, surpassing Napa and Paso combined. In other words, Lodi produces more Cabernet Sauvignon than anywhere else in the U.S. This more volume-driven approach to viticulture makes possible the value-oriented bottlings that so many wine drinkers reach for on an everyday basis. These offer the varietal’s classic profile of dark fruit, oak influence, subtle herbal and green pepper notes and solid structure. Try Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon from wineries like Cosentino, Ironstone, Lapis Luna and The Federalist.
