Dusty berries with an ashy accent to the red and blue fruit followed by some minerals and spices on the nose. Fine, dusty tannins on the fresh, medium-bodied palate before a long, refined finish. From organically grown grapes.

The 2021 Couvent des Jacobins bursts with aromas of raspberries and cherries mingled with notions of iris, licorice and spices. Medium to full-bodied, ample and seamless, with a fleshy core of fruit, ripe acids and melting tannins, it will offer a broad drinking window.

The 2021 Couvent des Jacobins should be outstanding. Offering a textbook bouquet of red and blue fruits as well as graphite and chalky minerality, it's medium to full-bodied, has ripe tannins, and a supple balanced mouthfeel. Brought up in 50% new French oak, the Grand Vin represents a selection of 80% of the total production and hit at a solid 13.5% alcohol. With a history going back all the way to the 14th century, this estate covers just under 10 hectares of prime real-estate on the upper plateau, the farming is all organic, and the estate has been managed by Xavier Jean since 2010. The incredibly talented Thomas Duclos also lends his advice here. Tasted twice. Barrel Sample : 89-91

Upfront and fruity at first, this gets off with a bang, giving tart red fruit and then a chalky, dark chocolate and graphite sensation comes in from the broad and plush tannins which coat the mouth and give the grip. It has a touch of wood on the end, some cedar and stalky aspects that just poke through. Direct with focus, feels well made with definition and juiciness.
