David Hill Vineyards & Winery commit to being good stewards of their land. They take pride in developing a brand worthy of a culture of innovation, education, service, teamwork and a daily passion. They embrace the property’s historical tradition and strive to express the character of the terroir through balance, diversity and uniqueness in the creation of artisanal wines.

The 40-acre Estate vineyard is a contiguous southeast, south and southwest facing hillside nestled within our 140 acre property in the Northern Willamette Valley. Situated between 360' and 625' in elevation on Laurelwood soil, the Estate Vineyard is a special place with a unique and mysterious history – a story still being revealed.

Today, David Hill Vineyards & Winery produces approximately 10,000 cases of wine annually – Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Noir, Muscat and Pinot Noir Ports, as well as non-estate Tempranillo, Merlot, and the well-known Farmhouse Red blend. The results are consistent, award-winning wines that grace a table, toast a wedding, and soften an afternoon.

Gewürztraminer, an expressive and aromatically distinctive white grape variety, is considered a noble variety in the Alsace region of France, and produces wonderful wines in the mountainous Alto Adige region of NE Italy. Generally this grape grows well in cooler regions and its natural intensity makes it a great ally for flavorful cuisine such as Indian, Middle Eastern or Moroccan. Somm Secret—Because of a charming perfume and tendency towards slight sweetness, Gewürztraminer makes for an excellent gateway wine for those who love sweet wines but want to venture into the realm of drier whites.

One of Pinot Noir's most successful New World outposts, the Willamette Valley is the largest and most important AVA in Oregon. With a continental climate moderated by the influence of the Pacific Ocean, it is perfect for cool-climate viticulture and the production of elegant wines.

Mountain ranges bordering three sides of the valley, particularly the Chehalem Mountains, provide the option for higher-elevation vineyard sites.

The valley's three prominent soil types (volcanic, sedimentary and silty, loess) make it unique and create significant differences in wine styles among its vineyards and sub-AVAs. The iron-rich, basalt-based, Jory volcanic soils found commonly in the Dundee Hills are rich in clay and hold water well; the chalky, sedimentary soils of Ribbon Ridge, Yamhill-Carlton and McMinnville encourage complex root systems as vines struggle to search for water and minerals. In the most southern stretch of the Willamette, the Eola-Amity Hills sub-AVA soils are mixed, shallow and well-drained. The Hills' close proximity to the Van Duzer Corridor (which became its own appellation as of 2019) also creates grapes with great concentration and firm acidity, leading to wines that perfectly express both power and grace.

Though Pinot noir enjoys the limelight here, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay also thrive in the Willamette. Increasing curiosity has risen recently in the potential of others like Grüner Veltliner, Chenin Blanc and Gamay.
