Winemaker Notes

The 1993 vintage of this wine was ranked #5 on the Wine Spectator's Top 10 Wines of 1995

The Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is inextricably linked to the Grand Cru vineyard of Musigny—in some eyes the pinnacle of Pinot Noir—a wine that should be both complete and profound but never heavy: 'majesty itself' claims Clive Coates. This Pinot Noir is well-suited to pair with poultry, beef, fish, ham, lamb and pork. It will play well with creamy sauces, spicy seasonings and may just be one of the world's most versatile food wines.

The estate’s 2009 Musigny Vieilles Vignes is a huge, explosive wine. Red raspberries, minerals, rose petals, pomegranate and white flowers are some of the nuances that emerge from this intense, focused wine. I tasted two separate barrels, one where the fruit and tannins still needed to meld together, the second totally seamless. This is a gorgeous wine in the making. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039.

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue, France
Many domaines in Burgundy can trace their roots back over 100 years, but only a handful can claim more than 200 years, to 1450 and the Chambolle vines of one Jean Moisson. Highly regarded as the greatest estate in Chambolle Musigny, today the domaine is headed by its 20th generation--Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette, the granddaughters of the late Comte Georges de Vogue.

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue is inextricably linked to the Grand Cru vineyard of Musigny, considered by many the pinnacle of Pinot Noir. Until 1936 the vineyard was conveniently split into just two climates--a narrow east-west track splitting the climate of Le Musigny from the more southerly and slightly smaller Les Petits-Musigny. The domaine ranks among the very best Burgundy houses.
