    Somm Note

    Winemaker Notes

Pale lemon in color with a powerful, expressive and complex nose (exotic fruits, blackcurrant buds, grapefruit, peach) as well as some floral notes. Well-balanced, long and rich on the palate. Seductively fresh and fruity.

Pair with fish, oysters and other seafood, or enjoy as an aperitif.

For five generations, the Delaunay family has worked the soils around the village of Pouille along the banks of the Cher River just 30 miles east of Tours. Joel Delaunay was the first in the family to bottle his own wines in 1970. He expanded the family holdings and built a new winery and cellar for Domaine des Cabotieres. By 1998, his son, Thierry, had just finished a degree in Viticulture & Enology in Bordeaux’s famous town of Libourne and was ready to join the family business. Thierry and his wife, Marie, officially took over management of the domaine when Joel retired in 2004.

Capable of a vast array of styles, Sauvignon Blanc is a crisp, refreshing variety that equally reflects both terroir and varietal character. Though it can vary depending on where it is grown, a couple of commonalities always exist—namely, zesty acidity and intense aromatics. This variety is of French provenance. Somm Secret—Along with Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc is a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon. That green bell pepper aroma that all three varieties share is no coincidence—it comes from a high concentration of pyrazines (herbaceous aromatic compounds) inherent to each member of the family.

Stretching east along the steep banks of the Loire River, Touraine is a major part of the Middle Loire. Soil variations of clay, sand, tuffeau and gravel throughout its subregions support both white and red varieties. Chinon and Bourgueil remain the source of Loire’s finest Cabernet Franc; various styles of the most outstanding Chenin blanc come from Vouvray and Montlouis.
